Exercise Equipment Review

Nordic Track Treadmills Reviewed

Nordic Track treadmills are renowned for their comprehensive range of features. But it's not just features that determine the quality of a treadmill. This article takes a closer look at the Nordic Track range... Nordic Track treadmills are actually produced by Icon Health and Fitness. In fact, if you've read some of our other treadmill reviews you'll know that Icon is one of the biggest producers of exercise equipment in the world. Their impressive portfolio of subsidiary companies includes Reebok, Welso, Proform and Weider.

Ranging from around $1000 to $2000 you can class Nordic Track treadmills in the mid price range. Smooth treadmills (click for our full review) are quickly becoming the gold standard in this price category so how do Nordic Track compare?

NordicTrack Treadmill

Firstly, Nordic Track treadmills tend to be more feature laden. For example, most of their running decks use what they term as "Reflex Deck Technology". In English this means that as you step down, the deck flattens to absorb the impact and then springs back to its original shape. It is very comfortable to run on but doesn't necessarily replicate the demands of road or track running (if that's what you're training for).

Nordic's electronic consoles mirror what you'd expect to find on a club machine with a good array of readouts and preset programs. However, Smooth are an equal match in this department. More importantly, what about component construction, durability and stability?

A good indication of the quality of any treadmill (and indeed any piece of exercise equipment) is the duration of the warranty. NordicTrack treadmills have what is called a "3-2-1 warranty" which covers the motor for three years, the frame and other parts for two years and all labor charges for one year.

Smooth win hands down in this department. Their warranties lead the industry with 10 years on most motors. The likes of Proform and Weslo have warranties as short as 90 days so Nordic Track treadmills fall somewhere in the middle.

Overall, the specifications on Nordic Track treadmills compare very favourably to Smooth. Elements such as deck size and motor duty are generous for the price you pay. In fact the running surface on Nordic's range is probably more generous than Smooth's when you compare price for price

Smooth's warranties on the other hand, are far superior which probably tells you something about the quality and durability of construction.

Nordic Track Treadmills to Consider

Nordic Track treadmills are difficult to find online. Short of going to their official site Nordictrack.com and paying full whack, you'll be hard pressed to find a good selection online. Reviewed below is a selection form their official site...

NordicTrack S3000
See the link for our full review. The reviews below are in the process of getting a full page of there own as well.

NordicTrack C1900 Treadmill
One of the lowest priced Nordic Track treadmills on the market. Still at $1000 you should expect more than the small 1.5HP motor on this machine. The CoolAir fans with optional aromatherapy scents is a nice touch but it shouldn't come into the decision making process. The Smooth 5.0 is the same price with a 2.5HP motor and more robust warranty.

Motor Size: 1.5 continuous duty
Running Surface: 55in x 20in
Maximum Speed: 10mph
Maximum Incline: 10%
Heart Rate: Yes
Folding: Yes

Nordic Track C2300 Treadmill
A smallish 1.75HP motor is disappointing on this $1300 piece of equipment. The running surface is a good size and the console has some nice features. All features the CoolAir fans. Compare to the Smooth 5.0 treadmill which has better specs.

Motor Size: 1.75 continuous duty
Running Surface: 55in x 20in
Maximum Speed: 10mph
Maximum Incline: 10%
Heart Rate: Yes
Folding: Yes

Nordic Track E2500 Treadmill
At around $1500 this has stiff competition from the likes of Spirit, Trimline and the Smooth 7.1. It has some nice features like those fans and adjustable cushioning but be sure to do your comparisons before you buy.

Motor Size: 2.0 continuous duty
Running Surface: 55in x 20in
Maximum Speed: 12mph
Maximum Incline: 10%
Heart Rate: Yes
Folding: Yes

NordicTrack Elite 2900 Treadmill
Also in the $1500 price range, this model adds to the already saturated price market. Some of what separates itself from the competition is the high resolution display, long belt, and a 3.5CHP motor

Motor Size: 3.5 continuous duty
Running Surface: 60in x 20in
Maximum Speed: 12mph
Maximum Incline: 12%
Heart Rate: Yes
Folding: No

Nordic Track 7600R Treadmill
Has the same specifications as Nordic Track's top home treadmill the E4400 below. However it's less expensive and features more workout programs... thirty of them! This treadmill is ideal for seasoned runners but compare it to the Smooth 9.2 first.

Motor Size: 3.0 continuous duty
Running Surface: 60in x 20in
Maximum Speed: 12mph
Maximum Incline: 12%
Heart Rate: Yes
Folding: Yes

Nordic Track E4400 Treadmill
One of the most expensive Nordic Track treadmills for the home at the moment. Boasting a huge 3.0HP motor, top speed of 12mph and very generous running surface this is almost a commercial grade treadmill at home. At $2500 it has a lot of serious competition from Trimline, Spirit, Keys and Smooth.

Motor Size: 3.0 continuous duty
Running Surface: 60in x 20in
Maximum Speed: 12mph
Maximum Incline: 12%
Heart Rate: Yes
Folding: Yes

What alternatives should you consider to Nordic Track treadmills? If you believe a good warranty a necessity try brands such as Smooth and Keys. The Smooth 5.0P and 7.1HR are also mid priced and offer excellent specifications...
